Majestic Red Rock Park, New Mexico

Red Rock State Park is one of the reasons New Mexico is known as the Land of Enchantment. Its sheer beauty will leave you entranced, whether you're hiking, biking, or just taking pictures. That's why the park annually hosts the Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial every August, one of the largest gatherings of American Indians in the country, as well as the 2nd largest Hot Air Balloon Rally every December. No matter when you come, the namesake red rocks will take your breath away.

The Best Hiking Trails

Pyramid Rock Trail (3 miles) and Church Rock Trail (2 miles) are the most well known. While Pyramid Rock is slightly longer, it's the highest trail in the area and the view is breathtaking, well worth the extra hike. Either way, you’ll see historic American Indian art as you go!

Red Rock Balloon Rally

The first full weekend of every December, the skies over Gallup and Red Rock State Park fill with the wondrous colors of hundreds of hot air balloons for the second largest Balloon Rally in the country.

FAQs

  • What should I bring with me?

New Mexico gets hot in the summer and chilly in the winter, so be sure to pack accordingly. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water, especially if you plan on hiking. There are no water sources or facilities once you pass the trailhead.
  • What is there to see?

You can learn about Red Rock Park's history as far back as the Mesozoic era at the Visitor's Center. Red Rock Museum also features American Indian artwork, rugs, and architecture.
